Throwing the Stick ForwardThe Impact of War on Southern Sudanese Women

Author(s): Mary Anne Fitzgerald

Other Wars

Sudan is the ninth largest country in the world, and Africa's largest, and Southern Sudan accounts for almost a third of the country. Southern Sudanese women suffer some of the poorest quality of life indices in the world, and have borne the brunt of the country's long-running civil war. As part of the 'African women for peace' series, this publication gives an insight into the lives of women who have become peacemakers and leaders despite a daily struggle to survive. By providing an opportunity for their voices to be heard, it seeks to promote better informed projects for the region by exploring problems they face within the context of their culture and circumstances.
