Second Hand & Rare Books

Captain Hans Behrendt, Adjutant to Lieutenant General Rommel: On the way to Derna we encountered a British soldier with a broken down motor-bike and when we drove up, he asked us if we were going to the 3rd Armoured Brigade, and I said ‘Yes.’ He go into my car, and after a while he said, ‘Strange car.’ ‘Yes, you are right, this is a German car, and we are Germans,’ I replied. All he said, was ‘Oh.’ I admired him for his coolness. Forgotten Voices Desert Victory tells the story of the Allies’ hard-won campaign in North Africa – starting with early Allied victories with the Desert Rats; unfolding with the strengthening of the Germans with the rise of Rommel; and ending with Montgomery’s victory at Alamein, which chased the Axis Forces back into Italy. During this remarkable campaign, we also witness the birth of the SAS. Told in the voices of the men who were there - including voices from German and Italian forces as well as the UK and Australia - this is the remarkable story of this signfiicant Second World War Allied victory.
